How to Build a Lightsaber at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland

Not to long ago in a city far far away, unless you live in Southern California.  We ventured to Disneyland’s latest attraction, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.  Where on the remote planet of Batuu, the resistance is gathering their forces in hopes to overturn the First Order.   Followers of the resistance meet at the Blackspire Outpost, under the guise of scrap metal shop known as Savi’s Workshop.  With the help of the Gatherers, the resistance starts to teach the ancient art of Lightsaber building.

Welcome fellow Jedi!

First things first, once you get into the area, you must go straight to Savi’s Workshop and pick up a reservation.  Once you have a reservation, you can walk around until your reservation time is ready.  However within less than 30 minutes of opening you risk losing a spot.  Early morning is your best bet, however, some evenings may have some openings.   The Lightsaber experience at Savi’s Workshop and the Cantina are the 2 areas that you need to grab reservations quickly.  Once the reservations are full, then they cut it off for the day. Most of the other attractions are pretty open most of the day, with wait times less than 30 minutes at any given time during this grand opening.

Ever Jedi must choose their path.  And it’s not always as easy.

There are 4 available hilt themes to choose from:

Peace and Justice

One of the most iconic looks! In honor of past galactic heroes!

Doesn’t that look cool!

Elemental Nature

The embodiment of the Force—an energy created by all living things. The materials are made up of Brylark trees, Cartusion whale bones and Rancor teeth. This and other Lightsabers have a sturdy metal feel. Very little is plastic other than small attachments and the animal parts of course. The Rancor tooth is super cool, but obvious plastic, but overall very sturdy and solid for the price.

WOW! Be at one with nature and the Force! Check out that rancor tooth!

Protection and Defense

Colorful pseudo gold plated designs makes this Lightsaber stand out! Mysterious inscriptions connects you with the ancient wellspring of the Force.

Power and Control

Forged by the dark side, this style features remnants from the Sith. If you like a Sith style Lightsaber, this is your choice. This goes well with the Red Kyber Crystal, since the story tells of the Kyber Crystals originally being of the Light side, but when converted to the Dark Side bleeds red which gives you the red color of the Lightsaber.

Once you are inside, you will receive a box of scrap metal parts.  The center piece is your Hilt which houses the heart of your Lightsaber, the Kyber Crystal.    All the parts then assemble around the Hilt and the Kyber Crystals powers it.

Each box of lightsaber parts includes:

  • 1 hilt
  • 4 sleeves (pick 2)
  • 2 emitters (pick 1) (This is your top)
  • 2 endcaps or also known as pommel caps (pick 1) (This is the bottom)
  • 2 sets of activation plates and switches (pick 1 set) (This is the center cover for your crystal and is your main on/off switch)

This is the tray they give you with Elemental Nature.

Here I have outlined all the Lightsaber components, so you can save time and choose what you want at home in order to maximum your building time in Savi’s workshop at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. There is no actual time limit, but typically you have only a few minutes to choose a path, then less than 20 minutes to build it. This way you can really plan out your trip and overall experience.

Upon completion, you will receive a 31” lightsaber blade so you are ready to take on the galaxy!

We are counting on you to help restore peace in the galaxy!

Episode 9 is just around the corner! I can’t believe it! That new trailer is just fantastic. I have to say I can’t wait to see Rey’s final face off against Kylo Ren.
